🧭 Beginner's Guide – MycoZen
Welcome to the MycoZen universe 🌱🍄
This guide was created to help you get started easily , even if you have no experience .
Beginner, parent, foodie, curious… you're in the right place.
1️⃣ What is mushroom cultivation? 🍽️
Growing mushrooms involves:
-
🍄 Growing a living organism: mycelium
-
🌾 In a substrate (wood, grains…)
-
🌡️ With the right conditions: temperature, light, humidity
-
✂️ Then harvest fresh mushrooms, ready to cook
At MycoZen , our mission is to make all of this possible:
-
✔️ Simple
-
✔️ Accessible
-
✔️ Fun for all ages
2️⃣ I'm a beginner… where do I start? 🚀
👉 The best option for a true beginner: the fruiting kit.
A MycoZen kit includes:
-
A bloc already colonized
-
Ready to use
-
Comes with a step-by-step guide
You do NOT need to:
-
Laboratory
-
Complicated equipment
-
Scientific knowledge
You only need:
-
A small space
-
A little light
-
A good dose of curiosity 🌱
3️⃣ The 3 MycoZen levels 🎮
To understand the progression, imagine three levels:
🥉 Level 1 – The Fruiting Kit
✔️ Simple
✔️ Fast
✔️ Fun
You open → you observe → you harvest.
Ideal for beginners, families, and gifts.
🥈 Level 2 – The Spawn (colonized grain)
✔️ You mix the spawn with a substrate
✔️ You can produce multiple bags
Ideal for those who want to produce more after a successful first kit.
🥇 Level 3 – Liquid Culture (LC)
✔️ You inoculate your seed yourself
✔️ You have mastered the entire cycle
Ideal for curious people who want to learn mycology “for real”.
👉 To start: take a kit .
Then, you progress towards the spawn or the LC at your own pace.
4️⃣ What do I need for my first kit? 🧰
To grow with a MycoZen kit, simply:
🌡️ Temperature: 18–24 °C
💡 Soft lighting (like a normal room)
💧 Moderate humidity (one spray bottle is sufficient)
🧼 A clean place
That's all. No special equipment required.
5️⃣ How does a MycoZen kit work? 📦
Simple version:
1. ✂️ Open the kit
You follow the instructions to open or drill in the right place.
2. 📍 Place in the correct location
Bright room, no direct sunlight, away from heat sources.
3. 💧 Manage humidity
A little spray of water (if recommended) to prevent the block from drying out.
4. 👀 Observe the magic at work
Small “bumps” appear… then grow larger every day.
5. 🍽️ Harvest
When the size is optimal, you cut/remove the bunch.
One kit can produce 2–3 waves of mushrooms.
6️⃣ Common beginner mistakes ⚠️
Here are the classic pitfalls:
❌ Too hot (> 24–25 °C)
→ May slow down or block growth.
❌ Not enough humidity
→ Heats mushrooms that are too dry and small.
✔️ Solution: spray lightly.
❌ No fresh air
→ Mushrooms breathe!
✔️ Solution: a little daily ventilation.
❌ Ignore instructions
✔️ Each strain has its preferences → follow the guide provided.
7️⃣ Is it dangerous? 🛡️
MycoZen products are designed to be safe :
-
✔️ Only edible species
-
✔️ No toxic species
-
✔️ No illegal substances
You only need to:
-
Do not consume a bag that smells bad.
-
Do not use a block with green/black spots
-
If in doubt → write to us with a photo of the lot
8️⃣ After my first kit… what do I do next? 🔄
You have several options:
🌈 Try another strain (Blue, White, Shimeji, Enoki, Shiitake, Lion's Mane)
📦 Head to the spawn point to produce multiple bags
💉 Explore the LC if you want to understand the whole cycle
